While initially everything seems to go smoothly and our heroes are trying their best to overshadow each other with flashy attacks, a towering dragon emerges before us. Within seconds our party has been reduced to cinders and we’re greeted by the guardian spirit of Teleria. She can only resurrect one of these brave souls and so we have to make a decision. In our play through we chose the Templar, a melee based character that offers a well-rounded mix of strong melee attacks and a sturdy defense. Other options would have been for example an orc barbarian or a nimble high elf archer – all of which looked pretty damn impressive for a free to play titles. Outstanding visuals and sound Outstanding is most likely the correct word to describe the overall visual appearance of Raid: Shadow Legends. The graphics are simply marvelous, especially for a free to play game that is also playable on your phone. The attacks, the animations and even the professional voice over really left us surprised. Raid: Shadow Legends is a game that definitely had some production value and it shows every second. No matter if you’re in combat, in your base overview or in one of the many dialogues throughout your campaign to reconquer Telaria, Raid: Shadow Legends is a real piece of eye candy. Form a new band of heroes Since your friends have just been roasted by that dragon, you are beginning your adventure on your own. Soon after though you will meet your first new allies that usually can be acquired in the form of rare crystals. These crystals basically hold a sort of essence within them that can be unlocked by the spirit guardian of Telaria. Depending on the rarity of the crystal you will be able to recruit powerful allies into your service. Warship Action Shooter – We have played the phenomenal World of Tanks and the even more spectacular World of Warplanes and thought we reached the end of a class of its own. We were so wrong. It was just a matter of time, until we now got the opportunity to play the most recent free to play third person action shooter addition from Wargaming.net – World of Warships. We chartered on one of those massive steel titans and here is our report. Initially you will start out on Tier 1, the lowest of the ten tiers of battleships. This currency can be used to research new components for your ship or even to unlock a more advanced form of warship. Step by step you will climb the tiers and eventually be able to overpower your foes with the superior firepower with your state of the art warships. A huge collection of warships: Currently there are two and a half nations available. Why two and a half? As for now there is a huge selection of American and Japanese warships available and even a few Russian warships. Since the game is still in its beta-stages, not all of the content has been implemented into the game yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if more nations will join the game. Especially when we consider that this has been the case with World of Warplanes and World of Tanks. With more than 70 ships already, you can already imagine what size the full roster of warships might have once the game is leaving the beta. Accurate design and high level of detail: The aforementioned warships are split in four distinctive groups: Aircraft carriers, Battleships, Cruisers and Destroyers. Each of these types does serve a critical role and comes with certain edges and flaws. To get an idea of the proper use of each ship, the game does give you a brief overview of ships statistics, ranging from survivability to concealment and information on the weaponry of the specific ship. Furthermore each warship has been built with an enormous amount of detail and historical accuracy – the same accuracy and detail, which helped with the success of World of Warplanes and World of Tanks. Fluent and very polished gameplay: Something that we really did enjoy was the transitioning of these huge steel chunks into the actual gameplay. While some of the bigger ships are somewhat slow and hard to move around the coastline or other obstacles, it is just because they are so unbelievably huge. Yes, aircraft carriers and Battleships do have some serious firepower but when they are being attacked by highly mobile Cruisers and Destroyers, they really have to rely on the help of their allies. Therefore it was reassuring to witness, that the developers really did manage to assign certain roles to specific types of ships and that the game did not become a naval long range slugfest. With the upcoming closed beta test of Enlisted, the scales of war are about to shift once again. Enlisted is the not only long awaited but also free to play infantry addition to the War Thunder universe and we managed to get our hands on it. Here is our war report. As one of many soldiers, either fighting for the axis or allies, its your job to dominate the battlefield and take over critical objectives in order to win the round. Fight as a normal recruit, a tank commander or even a pilot and make sure that your team takes the victory. Cooperate with others, outsmart and outplay your rivals and tip the scales of war in your favor. Large scale warfare Its not surprising that a company like Gaijin, which already made one of the most successful tank simulators, tried to bring the same level of realism to Enlisted. Playing this game for a few hours has made it very clear that they succeeded. It doesn’t even matter if you’re fighting on the shores of the Normandy or on the ravaged countryside of the Russian motherland, the level design is marvelous and allows for non-stop action between the two rival factions. In addition to that it should be noted that more than a hundred players at a time can be on the same warzone. Authentic weaponry and uniforms Another detail that Enlisted really picked up on was the implementation of authentic weaponry and uniforms. Wield the iconic Mosin Nagant on the side of the Russian forces or embrace your trust Karabiner 98 and go for those juicy one-taps on other players. Unlike in some other shooters, a hit to the center of the body is usually a death sentence in Enlisted. Its pretty easy to kill and be killed – something that can easily be forgotten in the way other games do portrait wars. The consequence is that Enlisted usually favors a methodical playstyle that rewards squads that strategize, flank and trying to take key objectives on the map. In that regard its pretty safe to say that Enlisted is directed more towards a mature audience that is looking for an authentic world war two shooter and less for an arcadelike run and gun. Twelve special classes – one for each job Potentially one of the most interesting features of Enlisted is its class system. As of now you get to choose between twelve different classes, each of those having its own unique perks. While its pretty obvious what a Sniper might do on the battlefield, there are others like the Radio Operator or the Engineer, which should also be part of any team. The aforementioned Radio Operator is needed to call in heavy artillery strikes to level enemy fortifications and allow for your infantry or tanks to push. The engineer on the other hand does actually build most of the fortifications. Sand bags, MG nests and AT guns are only some of the things an engineer can bring to the battlefield. The maps in Enlisted are not only huge but also beautifully rich and really carry the theme of the historical battle with them. Destroyed bunkers and a scarred landscape from nonstop bombardment are just the tip of the iceberg of the details that the developers put in their maps. This is further amplified by the authentic weaponry that ranges from guns, to uniforms and of course also to the depiction and dread that armored vehicles will unleash on the battlefields of Enlisted. One thing became pretty clear to us: With Enlisted you’re getting a world war two shooter that easily tops the quality of some of the most recent AAA titles – for free. Sci-Fi MMO – The first thing you might think when you start playing Gaijin Entertainment’s most recent free to play Sci-Fi MMO, is that it’s just World of Tanks in space. Roughly speaking, this is a fair description but Star Conflict has the potential to be recognized as much more than that. Why do we say that? You are about to find out. Fast-Paced Space Shooter: Aside from EVE-Online there are currently very few games that give you the opportunity to climb onboard a spaceship and engage in 3D-combat. The fast paced 3D-combat in space might be a bit confusing at first, but with several mechanics like target locking and homing missiles, you will soon get the hang of it. Once you have mastered the controls you will then find yourself dashing through asteroid belts, shaking off those pesky missile that someone has just fired at you. A Ship for Every Captain: The ships in Star Conflict are another strong reason to play the game. At the beginning of the game, you have the choice between several different types and each faction has their own selection on offer. There are slow destroyers, very fast interceptors, bulky repair and support ships and several other types of spacecraft that you can choose from. Every ship has its own set of weaponry and a unique ability that comes with the type of ship you have selected. For example, Tackler-class ships have the ability to cloak for a few seconds, which makes them great at picking off high value targets, and then vanishing once the deed is done – something that reminds us of the familiar rogue class from other games. PvP Focused Gameplay: Most of the action in Star Conflict revolves around fast paced PvP battles and the continuous improvement of your space vessel. Therefore the game provides several sorts of matches, like the classic variations of Team Death Match and Domination. Once you have managed to claim victory on a given map, you get around 60 seconds to scavenge the battlefield for extra resources and the occasional rare item that could reward you with another devastating weapon upgrade. Therefore PvP becomes something that you actually want to do, and not something that you have to do. Nonetheless, the developers at Gaijin Entertainment are currently working on a huge PvE update that is supposed to add specific endgame content for all those players who also enjoy the occasional PvE raid. There are over 300 vehicles from China, Germany, France, the USSR, UK, Japan and USA for each team to choose from. Your decision doesn’t just change the appearance, but also affects your battle capabilities. Lightweight tanks are particularly useful, as they have the power to quickly and effectively reduce enemy fortifications to rubble thanks to their speed. Coordinates can then be transmitted to the rest of the team and could turn out to be game-changing. But stay out of heavy fire or you’ll quickly get turned to scrap.
